Steel bar exports halve in April YoY

In April, Turkey's steel bar exports decreased on month-on-month basis after rising during the previous two months and halved as compared to the same month last year.

According to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in April this year Turkey's total steel bar exports, including rebar, amounted to 484,575 metric tons, decreasing by 54.14 percent year on year and down by 14.59 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $292.25 million, declining by 36.22 percent compared to April 2009 and down 1.76 percent month on month.

In April, the average export price of Turkish steel bar amounted to $603/mt, increasing by $79/mt or 15.03 percent from March levels, and up $170/mt or 39.06 percent from April last year.

Turkey's top ten steel bar export destinations in April 2010, Quantity (mt):

UAE - 109,103; Egypt - 63,644; Libya - 42,999; Saudi Arabia - 39,723; USA - 32,227; Yemen - 31,244; Iraq - 31,194; Canada - 18,958; Lebanon - 18,027; Israel - 17,166.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of 2010, Turkey's steel bar exports declined by 52.89 percent, reaching 1.85 million metric tons, while the revenue for these exports stood at $987.23 million, decreasing by 44.45 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
