Steel consumption increases by 97 pct in Q1-2010 YoY

Turkish steel consumption increased by 97% in 1Q 2010 to 5.5 mln tons compared to nearly 2.8 mln tons in Q1-2009.

The long products consumption rose to 2.9 mln tons in Q1-2010 against 1.65 mln tons during Q1-2009.

The consumption of flat products increased to 2.61 mln tons in Q1-2010 against 1.14 mln tons in Q1-2009

Meanwhile, the production of long and flat steel has not suffered much and remained at 5.917 mln tons & 5.971 mln tons during the Q1 of 2009 & 2010.

However, its interesting to note that the production of long products has decreased to 4.7 mln tons in Q1-2010 against almost 5 mln tons in Q1-2009. Meanwhile, the production of flat products increased from 928,000 tons in Q1-2009 to 1.275 mln tons in Q1-2010.
